Current JSNMA Edition
We, The Student National Medical Association Publications Committee, are thrilled to present our first issue of the Journal of the Student National Medical Association for the 2014-2015 academic year, the Global Health Edition! In this issue, we feature the work of many of our talented pre-medical and medical SNMA student members. Our authors share current research endeavors as well as their experiences with practicing medicine abroad.
Global Health is a rapidly growing field with vast opportunities for those in the medical field at any level of training. Many US medical schools offer global health programs and tracks of study to allow for students to spend time abroad. I participate in the International Health Program at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Through this program, I had the opportunity to embark on a medical mission trip to Peru following my first year of medical school. This was a truly life changing experience that positively impacted my perspective on the practice of medicine. During my fourth year of study, I will have the opportunity to jet set again, which I am greatly looking forward to.
I invite you to enjoy the stories shared by our fellow SNMA members regarding their exceptional experiences abroad. If you have not done so already, I encourage you to consider beginning your own personal journey into the realm of global health. You will surely develop into a better physician with such exposure. The SNMA International Affairs Committee is a great place to start.
I hope that you enjoy our summer 2014 issue of the JSNMA! Keep in mind that the Publications Committee offers a great deal of opportunities for SNMA members. If this is an area of interest for you, consider becoming a member of the 2014-2015 Publications committee and/or becoming a future JSNMA contributor!
All the Best,
