I would like to thank Jonathan for writing an amazing article and allowing me to share me experiences working to change the discussion and stigma of HIV/AIDS. Although I am highlighted in this article, know that there are many youth working to make a difference as it relates to HIV/AIDS and other issues.

This is a long awaited topic of rich discussion especially among medical students and future residents. I believe it is best for all that these discussions lead to effective improvements in the wellness of medical students and residents. Future physicians and physicians alike are so busy saving the lives of others they are literally killing themselves to do so. I predict with the recent healthcare reforms that there will be more patients and less physicians to care for them. This will create the potential for more fatigue and stress. Let's do something about it before we reach this boiling point of epidemic proportions.

Qigong helped me beat four bouts of "terminal" bone lymphoma in the early nineties. It's also helped me manage the pain--physical and emotional--wrought by the cancer in the years since. Qigong also is an excellent stress reducer; after consistent practice life's "slings and arrows" bounce off one like pebbles plinking off a breastplate. Clear 14 years and still practicing every day!

Great article, thanks for getting the word out about Preventive Medicine. Unfortunately such an important specialty does not get the "shine" of some of the more well-known specialties and too many college/medical students learn little about these fields or aren't exposed to them during their education. I can't tell you how many people asked me "what's that?" when I said I was going into Preventive Medicine and specifically Occupational Medicine. Of course I was only to happy to educate them and get the word out about this great field which offers many different opportunities, is expanding and has a shortage (as many fields do). As said above programs are 3 years long - prelim yr, MPH/MOH yr (unless one already has this degree), practicum yr. Check out the ABPM website for more information.
Thanks,
