Mass General Global Psychiatry, Visiting Scholar and Visiting Clerkships Program

Of special interest to you may be the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Chester M Pierce, MD, Division of Global Psychiatry program. It has sent residents on overseas electives throughout the world including

Ethiopia, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Indonesia, Nepal, Brazil, Chile and Belize. In addition, trainees from other countries have rotated through this division. This is representative of the department’s and

The Department of Psychiatry and our Diversity Committee also partners with the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office (MAO), whose mission is to advance the careers of those students, trainees and faculty underrepresented in medicine at MGH. They sponsor several programs for students that may be of interest to you. These include the Summer Research Trainee Program, which takes 1st and 2nd year medical students for an 8 week research experience at MGH, as well as the Visiting Clerkship Program which takes 4th year medical students for one month clerkship at MGH.. The Visiting Clerkship Program, sponsored by the Minority Faculty Development Program at Harvard Medical School provides financial support for fourth year, and qualified third year, minority (African-American, Native American and Hispanic American) medical students to participate in the Harvard Medical School Exchange Clerkship Program. Clerkships last four weeks and are available, space permitting, to full-time students in good standing at accredited US or Canadian medical schools.
